Sex Magick Wizards
Sex Magick Wizards are a Norwegian-Sámi quartet blending psychedelic rock, free improvisation and joik into dense, ritualistic soundscapes. Their music moves between trance-like repetition, angular melodies and explosive interplay, drawing on avant-garde traditions, psychedelic rock and Sámi cultural practices.
Since forming in 2018, the band has built a strong presence across European underground clubs and festivals, known for intense and unpredictable live performances. Their album releases mark a steady evolution from sprawling instrumental explorations to a more vocal-driven and direct expression. Their debut album, Eroto Comatose Lucidity (2019), featured drummer Axel Skalstad before Ingvald André Vassbø took over on Your Bliss My Joy (2021) and onwards.
In 2026, the band will release their fourth album Suola ja Noaidi on Is It Jazz? Records. Based on a fragmented Northern Sámi poem, this double-LP concept album explores themes of colonisation, spirituality and resistance. Expanding their use of vocals and narrative, the record pushes the band’s sound into new territory. Incorporating joik, one of Europe’s oldest vocal traditions, the band remains rooted in improvisation and collective energy while further developing their distinctive sonic language.
